12th ultimo, I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of

Her Majesty's Treasury to return the extract from the

Pere249

"Shanghai Mercury of the 8th January 1892 relative to the

new Canton coinage.

I am to add, for the information of the Marquis

of Ripon, that Mr Fairfield's letter with its enclosures

was referred to the Deputy Master of the Mint for his

information.
